1. Happy Father's Day

Father's Day has always been a special day celebrated in our family. This gives us another chance to bond and spend time together with our families. Dad and I will play golf and we are very competitive with each other! 
Each day I get the opportunity to work with my father leading The Petit Home Team. It brings great joy to speak in the mornings as we discuss our plan of the day.  We are so blessed to have a special work and life  relationship. Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there!

4. Flag Day

What do the Folds of the American Flag Represent?

The first fold stands for liberty. In America, we are free to own property, to elect our government representatives, to attend the church of our choice, to openly disagree, to travel freely without restriction, to pursue an education and the “American Dream.” The white stripes of the Flag symbolize our liberty.

The second fold represents unity. Abraham Lincoln stated that a house divided against itself cannot stand. National unity in the face of natural disasters and external threats, such as those posed on September 11, 2001, has preserved our constitutional republic.

The third fold stands for justice. In America we believe that every person stands equal before the law and is deserving of just and fair treatment. The laborer and the lawyer are both entitled to justice in America. The blue of the Flag embodies justice.

The fourth fold symbolizes perseverance. To persevere means to endure, to remain steadfast despite severe hardship and obstacles. The Continental Army suffered repeated setbacks before claiming any significant victory. Yet throughout the brutal winter of 1777 at Valley Forge, they persevered.

The fifth fold represents hardiness. Hardiness is the ability to withstand difficulty while remaining resolute despite adversity. The aggressors in World War II underestimated American hardiness. They thought that Americans were soft, incapable and unwilling to endure hardship. Our soldiers and sailors such as those who fought at Normandy and Korea proved them wrong.

The sixth fold stands for valor. Valor means courage, the act of defending what is right even in the face of opposition. Nathan Hale, the Revolutionary War patriot, was convicted of spying by the British in 1776. Before he was hanged, Hale displayed great valor with his words, “I only regret that I have but one life to live for my country.” The red color in the flag represents valor, symbolic of the blood shed by all the American heroes who sacrificed for our freedom.

The seventh fold symbolizes purity. A pure nation is free from taint, from what weakens, pollutes or renders it ineffective. Our Founding Fathers illuminated freedom’s path for us when they created the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The pure intent of these documents enabled the United States of America to become the greatest of all nations, a land of liberty which beckons to all who are seeking asylum from persecution and oppression.

The eighth fold represents innocence. Innocence implies that one is unacquainted with evil and thus free from sin. George Washington once stated, “The love of my country will be the ruling influence of my conduct.” Americans pay tribute to him and to all those who give devoted service to uphold freedom’s ideals without selfish or evil motivations.

The ninth fold signifies sacrifice. To sacrifice is to give up something valued for an ideal, belief or goal. America exists today because of the sacrifices of countless Americans. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in battles waged during the Revolution, the World Wars, In Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan and other locations around the world. We pay tribute to them and to the firefighters, policemen, soup kitchen volunteers, members of our armed forces and numerous others who continue to sacrifice for freedom.

The tenth fold stands for honor. One who possesses honor possesses a keen sense of ethical conduct. To honor a person or ideal is to display respect for them. We give thanks for all who have acted with honor in the founding and growth of America. We pray that each citizen and all those who represent us in government will conduct themselves in a manner that will continue to bring honor to our nation and to our Flag.

The eleventh fold symbolizes independence. Independence is the state of being free, of being able to make unrestricted choices within the law as free individuals and as a free nation. Ever since our nation’s birth, Americans have fiercely defended their independence against all oppressors. Patrick Henry articulated the sentiments of his fellow Americans past, present and future when he uttered those famous words, “Give me liberty, or give me death.” America stands as an icon of freedom and independence for the oppressed of the world. May it always remain so.

The twelfth fold represents truth. Truth is the body of real events and facts. It is preserved through adherence to reality and the avoidance of falsehoods. America was built upon God-given truths articulated in the Declaration of Independence “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Adherence to these truths has made America a great nation. We pledge to continue this noble legacy of truth so that in America, every man, woman and child may forever be free.

For New England natives Bob and Rob Petit, family is the greatest bond on earth. So when the opportunity arose to leave the snowy winters behind and join forces as a father-son real estate team in the Charlotte and Lake Norman areas of North Carolina, they seized it. They had no connections in the area and knew they would have to work for it. “We started from scratch with an empty database and started filling up with expired and for sale by owner listings,” said Bob. “We took whatever we could.” The Petits immediately set themselves apart by providing personalized service to their clients.

Because Rob handles all the listings, and Bob dedicates his time to the buyers, they are able to focus on each person’s needs at one time. “The fact that we are representing both sides differentiates us,” said Bob. “Whether you are a buyer or a seller, you get a specific level of experience and attention devoted just for you.”

Not only are Bob and Rob experts in various markets, but as former veterans—Bob (USMC 1970-1972) and Rob (USCG 1996-2000)—they are committed to helping those who have served and hold the Certified Military Residential Specialist designation.

Given their focus and expertise, it wasn't long before Bob and Rob made inroads in the market, winning clients over with their combined knowledge and dedication to service. They finished 2014 with $4.5 million and 21 closings.

They also were able to add a listing agent to their team. And 2015 is shaping up to be even better with a goal to bring in $6.5 million and 35 closings and add another “We are serious about what we do, and a big part of that is providing customer service and being responsive,” Bob said. A big factor in the Petits’success is the fact that they not only work well with clients, but they also work well together. Their foundation begins with their bond as father and son, and together, they are committed to work toward the same goals.

“We are a true team in all aspects,” said Rob. “We provide a lot of structure, but we are able to adjust and cover for each other.”

Both Bob and Rob agree the best part of the business is working with great people and making them happy. Whether it’s the smile on the face of a first-time home-buyer or the satisfaction of a buyer who is moving up, the enthusiasm and satisfaction of their clients is infectious.

“We’re fortunate to be able to make people’s dreams come true,” Bob said. “Their excitement and appreciation is what does it for us.”

As business partners and family members, Bob and Rob also enjoy spending time together outside the office and are able to separate their business and personal lives. They may talk business when they’re working, but when they’re off the clock, it’s about family. Bob is married with three grown children and Rob is married with three young children. They are a happy, close-knit unit, and
they truly enjoy their time together.

“We’re very lucky people to get along so well,” said Bob. “Whether we’re cheering for our northern teams or closing a deal, we love to be together. That’s a good thing.”

1. Mother's Day gift idea - Candle Image Transfer

Here’s what you’re going to need:
Pick the photo you want to work with and prep your paper.Take a piece of white tissue paper and cut it so that it’s just a bit larger than a plain piece of printer paper. Then, fold over and tape the excess tissue paper to the back of your printer paper.
Once your paper is taped, place it into your printer so that the tissue paper is the side that gets printed on. *Make sure to set your printer paper properties on transparency film! This setting prints perfectly on tissue paper! Print your image onto your tissue paper.
Remove the tissue paper from the printer paper and trim your image. I did not want to use the entire image so I trimmed the background away.Once your image is trimmed the way that you desire, place it onto your pillar candle ink side up.
My tissue paper had a bit of static in it so it stayed in place on my candle and I could place it exactly as I wanted it without too much of a problem.
When your image is placed where you’d like it to remain, take a piece of wax paper and wrap it around your candle. *Having a bit of extra wax paper does allow you to grab the slack and use it as a holder of sorts which will benefit you in the next step.Now, take your heating tool and gently heat the wax paper. It will begin to melt over your image.
Once the wax paper begins to melt, you will begin to see your image come through the paper clearly. Stop heating once you see this happen.
Now, slowly peel the wax paper away from the candle. That’s it! Your image should be fully transferred! If you happen to see any bits of wax sticking up, use your finger to lightly pat down (or wipe away) the flakes.

III. Spring Cleaning List – 10 Neglected Areas

1. Trash Cans- Even when they always have a bag in them, trash cans can get messy from overflow and odors.  Take all your kitchen and bathroom cans outside, spray them thoroughly inside and out with your favorite antibacterial cleaner. Sit for 10 minutes, rinse and dry.

2. Medicine Cabinets- When you do your spring cleaning its also a great time to go through your medicine cabinets and clean out expired medicinesThere are a couple ways you can safely dispose of them. Do not flush them down the toilet as they can contaminate ground water. If they are prescription medications remove the label and destroy it, then you can either crush the pills and place in a bag with soil,  cat litter, coffee grounds, or wet newspaper and tie it up.  You may also find a pharmacy that accepts medicines and they will properly dispose of them for you.

3. Blinds-  Blinds in many houses are frequently neglected. Dust builds up and they begin to look shabby. Make it a point to give them a thorough dusting during spring cleaning. Knock down cobwebs in the corner, run a duster between each slat, rotate blinds and dust the other side.

4. Behind Appliances- Pull out your refrigerator, stove, washer, and dryer.  Sweep and mop well to remove dust, and dirt that has built up.

5. Under the Sink- Combine duplicates or throw out empty bottles of cleaner. Wash used dust rags and replenish if needed ( old t-shirts cut up make great dust cloths).  If you have collected multiple glass flower vases throughout the year now is the time to re-purpose or donate the extra’s.  Wipe off the shelf and replace items.

6. Oven- Coat interior with oven cleaner. While it is soaking, remove knobs and soak them in a bowl of half water and half vinegar to remove grease and grime build up. Scrub the top of your stove and around where the knobs were. If your oven has a bottom drawer pull it out, take it outside and scrub thoroughly.  Pull oven away from wall and wipe down sides where food often spills and drips.

7.Mattress- Strip sheets off mattress, sprinkle a box of baking soda all over to cover completely. Allow it to sit for an hour or more. Vacuum off completely. Spray the mattress with Fe-breeze or spray with straight rubbing alcohol ( it will smell strong but when it dries the smell evaporates). Allow to dry and make up the bed.

8. Dishwasher- Empty dishwasher, take apart bottom components-sprayer, grate and filter. Remove any food particles from holes in the sprayer, wipe food from bottom of dishwasher. Soak items in a sink of hot water with 2 cups of vinegar for 30 minutes, Replace parts. Place a shallow bowl with 2 cups vinegar onto the top rack and run an empty cycle. This will freshen and sanitize as well as cut grease in your dishwasher.

9. Door Jambs and Trim- Use a duster with a telescoping handle or stand on a sturdy stool. Dust across the top and then down on door frames. If they are really dirty, wipe them down with hot soapy water.

10. AC Vents- Dust and allergens cling to the vents and every so often need to be cleaned more thoroughly than a quick feather dust. Remove vents and soak in a sink of hot soapy water, use a toothbrush if needed.
